All for One and One for All: Small Teams of Mutually Supportive Entrepreneurs
Press Release - June 30, 2015
This week multiple teams of 5-7 entrepreneurs begin a 3-month peer-to-peer mentorship program. Entrepreneurs are assigned to a team according to the stage of growth of their business – Idea, Launch, or Growth. Teams meet regularly and follow a process proven to move entrepreneurs forward. Based on similar practices used in Silicon Valley, Austin, and other advanced startup cities, team members confidentially help each other solve problems and identify opportunities. Seasoned JaxCoE mentors in various professions (investment, marketing, accounting, HR, legal, business development, social media, etc.) stand by to meet with teams and provide focused advice.
"I consider myself fortunate to have participated in the first group of its kind last year and now be able to offer such a beneficial program to anyone who needs this kind of assistance to grow their business, free of charge", says Raquel Steffens, Co-Founder of Jax Community of Entrepreneurs.
Kate Stewart, PhD, Co-Founder of Jax Community of Entrepreneurs, worked with Steffens to develop the process. Having observed similar processes used in Austin and other cities, Stewart stated “Entrepreneurs are under intense time and financial pressures. They need a process that will solve their problems quickly, effectively, and inexpensively while building a community of people they can rely upon.”
Exceleration Teams™ work because:
- 'team think' yields better ideas and connections than a founder working on his/her own
- trust forms between the members as they share challenges and wins
- the team becomes the one safe place where members can share with others in similar situations
- friendships and partnerships form that last long after the team disbands
- founders who previously felt isolated are sustained by the community
All teams will utilize Lean Startup/Canvas, a method proven to help startups move forward efficiently and effectively. Lean Startup training and guidance will be available at all stages. The program begins with an orientation and ends with a graduation ceremony, allowing all the teams to network together.
